Wellness started in 1997 as a creation of WellPet LLC, a pet food company that started in 1926 with the founding of Old Mother Hubbard Dog Treats. When Old Mother Hubbard and Eagle Pack merged, they formed WellPet, LLC. The company is now a subsidiary of Berwind Corporation, a private investment management company.

The company says that the vast majority of their pet food production is done in their own Mishawaka, Indiana facility. Wellness Signature Selects, Divine Duos, and all wet foods in pouches are made in Thailand.

In a video published in 2012, WellPet says that their quality assurance program maintains the strictest standards of food safety in the pet food business and exceeds standards established by the FDA and AAFCO.

In October, Wellness recalled a single variety of dry dog food due to excessive moisture content. While not immediately dangerous, excessively moist dry foods are prone to developing mold before their labeled expiration date.

While this product does provide more meat than the average dry food, it also contains peas, potatoes, and potato protein. Like most cat foods marketed to guardians of indoor cats, the food is high in fiber from tomato pomace, pea fiber, and ground flaxseed.

For example, Wellness wet foods range from around $0.5 per ounce if you choose a product from the Complete Health line and $0.57 per ounce for Divine Duos, meaning your average daily feeding costs will add up to something between $1.34 and $3.42.

Wellness cat food is one of the better brands on the market. The Wellness CORE line stands out with a great selection of high-protein foods made primarily from animal ingredients. Their Complete Health line is also a good option, particularly if you choose their canned recipes rather than the dry foods.

Though Wellness has been recalled several times in the past, the company reacted promptly to reports of problems and very few customers complain about the food making their pets sick. Overall, the brand has a good reputation among both cats and people.

In the 1990s, the Wellness team began working with animal nutrition experts, veterinarians, and scientists to develop a food that would revolutionize the pet food industry. They continue to learn and grow and represent a new generation in natural pet food, as well as supporting their local communities and creating long-term sustainability initiatives to help the environment.

Transition Instructions It takes time to transition your pet to a new food without having digestive upset. Over the course of one to two weeks, you should gradually switch from the old food to the new. Start with a 75% old to 25% new mix, then 50:50, and finally 25:75, until you have switched to Wellness food entirely.

These are broad guidelines only, designed to assist with feeding your pet based on their weight, age and activity level. Always check the feeding charts on your pet's food packaging in conjunction with these feeding guidelines. Required amounts may differ between individual pets, and adjustments may be required to maintain optimal body weight.

The smell is nice and it looks like a good quality food I brought this because it had pumpkin in it and I think or I believe it helps your dogs go to the toilet without straining their fur is lovely and soft and shiny.before i started using this they was scratching like he'll (night mare)I would certainly recommend 100%

Great quality food, different flavours to keep it interesting and is high in protein and not full of fillers. I picked it based on the 79% nutritional value on which compare to supermarket brands such as bakers only have 20% rating. Highly recommend, produces a dog at a healthy weight, good energy levels and really helps maintain a healthy and shiny coat.

My cat is relatively easy to please when it comes to dry food but much more discerning when faced with the wet variety. I persevere as I'm not convinced that a totally dry diet is healthy, especially when you consider how little cat's drink. She likes chicken, duck and turkey plus gravy (she hates pate and has largely gone off everything in jelly) so this ticked all her boxes but that's no guarantee! Anyway, I gave her half of the packet for breakfast and she ate the lot. An hour later she seemed hungry again so I gave her the second half and she licked all the gravy and left the chunks. She has a small appetite so this counts as a good result!

Our two are fed wet only and we try to give them best diet that we can, but with one of them being a very fussy eater its quite a task, but thats cats for you. What my fussy girl likes other peoples cats might not. Boudicca loves this and she's very hard to please, Buddha eats anything. I like it because it's a complete food with a good meat content and no grains or other rubbish. I just wish she liked the other varieties by this brand because as this is fish I try not to feed to often and rotate with other meats.

I had never tried this out on my cats before. I have two cats, and a feral stray. This product met with a unanimous paws up from all of them, even my fussy cat cleared his dish and wanted more! For me, it was an easy to open packet, the food looked and smelt good and wholesome, unlike some dry food which reeks. There was nothing left in any of the dishes, just three hopeful faces! I will be getting this again in a bigger size.

"I feed Wellness CORE Ocean because it is proving to be excellent for my full-coated dogs. Their coats are looking in beautiful condition, and they have no digestive issues. Also, they absolutely love the food."

Wellness, with its now-familiar celestial sun and star logo, was said to be the first pet food brand to offer grain-free recipes. It would go on to become a flagship product that, much like a celestial body, collected other pet food companies due to gravity.

In 2017, WellPet announced the hiring of a new CEO, Camelle Kent. Kent was responsible for getting WellPet into the raw food business since she first joined the company 4 years earlier. She had previously worked internationally for the Gillette brand.

During the previous month, February 2017, a number of canned Wellness cat food varieties were recalled because of the potential for foreign material. A company rep explained to Petful:
